Context
The Problem With Most PPF Conversations
Walk into most detailing shops and ask about paint protection film, and you'll hear one of two responses. Either they carry XPEL because "everyone uses XPEL," or they push whatever brand gives them the best margin. Rarely does anyone explain the actual differences between films or why their choice matters.
We think you deserve better. When you're investing $3,000 to $8,000 in paint protection, you should understand what you're getting and why. For a primer on PPF itself, see What is Paint Protection Film?.
Valor advantages
What Makes LLumar Valor Different
LLumar Valor isn't just another paint protection film. It incorporates technology that solves problems other films don't address.
Built-In Ceramic-Infused Hydrophobic Topcoat
This is Valor's defining feature and our primary reason for choosing it.
Most premium PPF films, including XPEL Ultimate Plus and STEK DYNOshield, come with a clear topcoat designed for self-healing and basic stain resistance. Many installers then recommend adding ceramic coating on top of the film to achieve water beading and easier cleaning.
Here's the problem: adding ceramic coating over PPF can interfere with the film's self-healing properties. The ceramic layer sits on top of the healing topcoat, and when a scratch occurs, that ceramic layer must also heal or be penetrated for the film to do its job. In our testing, this creates inconsistent healing and defeats one of PPF's primary benefits.
Valor's solution is elegant: the hydrophobic ceramic properties are infused into the topcoat itself, not layered on top. You get genuine water beading, ease of cleaning, and contamination resistance without adding anything that compromises self-healing.
When competitors upsell ceramic coating over their PPF, they're often compensating for a film that lacks these properties. We'd rather install a film that doesn't need the bandage. For more on this topic, read Can You Ceramic Coat Over PPF?.

Superior Self-Healing Performance
All premium PPF films claim self-healing capability. The difference is in how well and how quickly they actually heal.
We've tested Valor against XPEL, STEK, 3M, and others using controlled scratch tests. Valor consistently heals faster at lower temperatures. Where some films require direct sunlight or warm water to initiate healing, Valor often heals at normal ambient temperatures within hours.
The healing is also more complete. Light scratches disappear entirely, not just partially. After 2-3 years of real-world exposure, Valor maintains its healing capability while some competing films show diminished performance.
Eastman Manufacturing Quality
LLumar is manufactured by Eastman Chemical Company, a Fortune 500 company founded in 1920 with nearly a century of polymer technology expertise. Eastman also makes the window films we use, which allows for consistency across our protection offerings.
Quality control: Large-scale manufacturing with rigorous quality standards means consistent film performance roll after roll. Some smaller PPF brands have batch-to-batch variation issues.
Research and development: Eastman invests significantly in improving their films. Valor represents the current generation; future improvements will build on this foundation.
Warranty backing: When a manufacturer warranty claim arises, you want a company that will exist in 10 years to honor it. Eastman's stability provides that assurance.
Made in USA
Valor is manufactured in the United States, which provides supply chain reliability and quality oversight that imported films can't always match. This became particularly relevant during recent supply chain disruptions when some shops using imported films faced months-long backorders.
Comparison
How Valor Compares to Competitors
Let's address the specific films customers ask about most frequently.
LLumar Valor vs. XPEL Ultimate Plus
XPEL has earned its reputation as a quality film, and we acknowledge that. Ultimate Plus is a solid product that many reputable shops install successfully.
However, our comparison reveals several Valor advantages: Hydrophobic performance—Ultimate Plus requires additional ceramic coating to achieve the water beading Valor provides out of the box. This adds cost and can compromise self-healing. Healing speed—In our testing, Valor heals light scratches faster at ambient temperatures. Installer support—As LLumar SelectPro dealers, we receive training, technical support, and warranty backing that matches or exceeds XPEL's dealer program. Cost—Valor typically costs less than Ultimate Plus while offering equivalent or superior performance.
XPEL is not a bad choice. We simply believe Valor is a better one.
Valor vs XPEL Ultimate Plus
LLumar Valor vs. STEK DYNOshield
STEK has grown rapidly by positioning their DYNOshield as a premium alternative to XPEL. It's a good film with some genuine innovations. Our assessment: similar self-healing; in our testing Valor's ceramic-infused topcoat outperforms for water behavior and longevity; STEK's distribution network is smaller than Eastman's; and STEK is a younger company with a shorter track record. We respect STEK's innovation but prefer Valor's combination of performance, availability, and manufacturer backing.
LLumar Valor vs. 3M Scotchgard Pro
3M invented paint protection film for military applications. Scotchgard Pro is a capable film, but 3M's self-healing is adequate rather than best-in-class, and Scotchgard Pro lacks built-in hydrophobic technology. For customers seeking premium performance, we recommend Valor.
LLumar Valor vs. Ceramic Pro Kavaca
Ceramic Pro's Kavaca is designed to work with ceramic coating applied on top. This is precisely the approach we disagree with—Kavaca essentially requires ceramic coating to achieve full performance, locking customers into additional purchases. Valor provides complete performance without additional layers or upsells.
Pricing
What About Price?
Customers sometimes assume that our choice to use Valor represents a premium upsell. The reality is different.
Because of our dealer relationship with Eastman and efficient installation processes, our Valor installations often cost less than competitors charging for XPEL or STEK. We've chosen the best film we can find and priced it fairly rather than selecting an inferior film and padding margins.
Full Front Protection: $2,800. Track Package (full front plus rocker panels): $3,500. Full Body: Starting at $7,500.
These prices reflect our commitment to premium protection at fair value. We don't offer partial front packages or budget options because incomplete protection defeats the purpose of investing in PPF at all.

Our recommendation
Why We Don't Recommend Coating Over Valor
This deserves direct address because many shops recommend ceramic coating over any PPF they install.
Valor's ceramic-infused topcoat already provides: hydrophobic water beading, contamination resistance, enhanced UV protection, and easier cleaning.
Adding another ceramic layer on top can interfere with self-healing, adds unnecessary cost ($500–$1,000+), creates a maintenance requirement, and can void some warranty coverage if improper products are used.
When competitors recommend coating over PPF, ask yourself: are they solving a problem, or creating a revenue opportunity?
We install Valor and let the film's built-in technology do its job. If you want additional ceramic coating on non-PPF surfaces (trunk, roof, lower doors), we offer that using Labocosmetica products. But we won't upsell coating over film that doesn't need it. For the full explanation, see Can You Ceramic Coat Over PPF?.
Process
The Installation Matters as Much as the Film
Even the best film installed poorly will disappoint. Our installation process ensures Valor performs to its full potential.
Eastman CORE Software: We use Eastman's computer-controlled pattern cutting system (formerly known as DAP) to cut patterns precisely for your specific vehicle. This eliminates the stretching, trimming, and fitting issues that come with hand-cutting or generic patterns.
Controlled environment: Installations happen in a clean, temperature-controlled space that minimizes dust contamination and allows proper film manipulation.
Edge wrapping: Wherever possible, we wrap film edges around panel edges rather than cutting at the edge line. This prevents visible seams and eliminates lifting points.
Curing protocols: We follow manufacturer-specified curing procedures to ensure proper adhesive bonding before the vehicle leaves our facility.
Offer
Our Current Promotion
For vehicles under 500 miles, we're currently including FREE Labocosmetica ceramic coating on all non-PPF panels with Full Front PPF purchase.
This combination provides comprehensive protection: Valor's physical protection on high-impact areas and premium ceramic coating's chemical protection everywhere else. It's the best of both technologies applied where each makes the most sense.
Frequently Asked Questions
Valor has a built-in ceramic-infused hydrophobic topcoat, so you get water beading and easier cleaning without adding ceramic coating on top (which can interfere with self-healing). In our testing Valor also heals faster, and we can typically offer it at a lower price than XPEL Ultimate Plus while matching or exceeding performance.
We don't recommend it. Valor's topcoat already provides hydrophobic performance. Adding ceramic over PPF can compromise self-healing and adds cost. We use Labocosmetica ceramic on non-PPF panels only. See Can You Ceramic Coat Over PPF? for details.
Quality PPF like Valor, installed by certified pros, typically lasts 7–10 years or longer. Longevity depends on care and environment. For more, read How Long Does PPF Last?.
LLumar SelectPro is a dealer certification from Eastman. It means we've met training and quality standards, qualify for extended warranties, and have direct technical support. Your installation is backed by both our workmanship and Eastman's material warranty.
